The Future Development Plan - January 2023

Hey everyone!

It's been a bit since my last devlog.  For the time being I'll be halting all development on this project for the time being. I'll be heading back to school soon and I'd like to dedicate as much time as possible to my studies. I'd like to share with you all the future plans and current work I've done so far.

=== Lore ===

Yes! More lore will be coming to the game. These little notes will detail the different lives of people affected by the endless rain. The logs can be unlocked be achieving a specific high score on a level.

=== New Levels ===

I plan to have at least two more levels in the game, and they will increase in difficulty. The current playable level will be titled Rural will be the easiest level. The next level planned is The City. This new level will come with some new features:

  • New Soundtrack!
  • New Level Design!
  • New Hazards!
  • New Powerups! Platforms too! (And maybe a gun???)

The City is currently still in the drafting stage, but will operate similarily to the Rural level in terms of objectives.

=== The Menu ===

This has taken up the majority of my development time over the past month or so. I'd like for the game to have more beyond just a simple prototype level. I've been working on button sprites and creating a few different screens.

  • Title Screen: First screen the player sees upon loading up the game. Has the logo, and buttons leading to the other screens.
  • Help Screen: This screen is used as an in game tutorial. There are various images accompanied by text that explain the different mechanics in the game.
  • Level Select Screen: I plan to add two more levels to the game, so having this screen allows the player to select which level they'd like to play.
  • Lore Screen: This is where all the logs are contained.

=== Conclusion & The Future ===

There are a few QoL changes that I plan to implement when I get back to development on this game. I'm not sure when I will return, but this is most certainly not the end. I'll be learning Unity in my upcoming semseter, so you may see a new project pop up on my page.

Thank you to everyone who has checked out and played my game, it really means a lot to me.
